Second Poker Party in the Caribbean
Poker Party to take place at the Atlantis Casino and the Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
In the middle of January, when most of the Northern Hemisphere struggles to stay warm in the midst of a cold winter frost, poker players and vacation goers of all ages and backgrounds will head down to sunny Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The Caribbean Poker Party will begin on Wednesday and run through Wednesday. Jerry Nemeth of Marion, Ohio, hoped that his trip to the Flamingo Las Vegas resort today would result in winnings, but he didn't expect to be able to retire. The 58-year-old school custodian's ,016,389.22 win at 4:21 p.m. today on a Wheel of Fortune® IGT progressive slot machine enables him to send a message to his boss.
"Tell Roger Richards he's going to have to find somebody else right away - I resign!" said the new millionaire with glee. Richards is the head custodian at Tri-Rivers Career Center in Marion.
Nemeth and his wife Judy are on vacation at the Flamingo after accepting an attractive room package offer in the mail from the resort, sent as a result of their membership in the Park Place Connection players club. "It was a good time to get away from the snow," Judy commented. "We just arrived five hours ago. I won ,000 earlier on a Wheel of Fortune machine at the other end of the casino. We always play Wheel of Fortune slots. I saw these machines and we sat down together. He put in a 0 bill. He had only been playing six or seven minutes."
Jerry lined up three Wheel of Fortune symbols on the center line to win the progressive jackpot that is linked to Wheel of Fortune machines across Nevada. He still had in credit left in the machine when he won the jackpot.
"I felt great," Jerry recounted. "I jumped out of the chair and shouted 'I won the jackpot.' I got cold chills. It's wonderful. I can retire."
Judy retired three months ago from the Verizon Operations Center. The couple has been married 37 years and has two children and three grandchildren. "We will pay off our daughter's home mortgage, give an equal amount to our son to build a new home, pay off our own mortgage, and invest the rest," the couple agreed.
This was the 67th dollar Wheel of Fortune jackpot since the progressive's inception by International Gaming Technology. The progressive jackpot for the three-reel, one-dollar slot machine will be paid by IGT in 20 annual payments of ,819.46. Nemeth received his first check in that amount today. The Wheel of Fortune progressive jackpot is won frequently in Nevada, and is reset to million after each win. There was a similar winner earlier in the day at a casino in Laughlin, Nev.
